How reverse osmosis works

From feed water in to purified water out.

Pressure pushes water through a very fine membrane. Clean water passes; most dissolved solids are carried away to drain.

Stage 1

Pre-filtration

Carbon and sediment

Carbon and sediment filters clean the water before it reaches the membrane.

What it removes
  • Sediment and particles
  • Chlorine
  • Taste and odour

Why it matters: Chlorine and particles damage membranes, so pre-filtration protects them.

Stage 2

Membrane

Reverse osmosis

A pump pushes water through the membrane. Purified water passes; the rest carries the rejected solids to drain.

What it reduces
  • Dissolved salts and minerals (TDS)
  • Hardness
  • Most other dissolved solids

Why it matters: Consistent water means consistent coffee, ice and equipment life.

Stage 3

Control and monitoring

Alarms and displays

Models vary: the Noble RO 60 lets you set the final TDS, the Imperial RO reports over Wi-Fi, and the Majestic RO alarms on filter changes and floods.

What it tracks
  • Water quality and conductivity
  • Filter change timing
  • Leaks and flooding

Why it matters: Problems are caught before they reach your equipment.

RO sends part of the water to drain as it works. The Majestic 400 RO, for example, runs at 50% recovery. We size the system and drain for your site.

Why reverse osmosis

What changes with purified water.

Protects equipment

Less scale, less corrosion
  • Protects coffee machines and steam ovens
  • Cleaner ice machines
  • Fewer service call-outs
  • Longer equipment life

Consistent results

The same water every day
  • Repeatable coffee recipes
  • Clear ice
  • Stable water for production
  • Adjustable TDS on the Noble RO 60

Built to run

Monitored and serviced
  • Filter-change alarms on key models
  • Flood protection built in
  • Remote monitoring options
  • Serviced by our own engineers

Why Sovereign RO

One range, sized to your output.

From a single coffee bar to a production line, Sovereign RO is sized to the litres you need per hour, not the biggest box on the shelf.

  • Sized to your feed water and peak demand
  • Pre-filtration matched to protect the membranes
  • Pairs with Regal softening and SovSafe UV
  • Pair with a maintenance plan from a fixed annual fee
Your questions answered

Reverse osmosis, straight answers.

Q1What does reverse osmosis do?
It pushes water through a very fine membrane that holds back most dissolved solids, such as salts and hardness minerals. The result is consistent, high-quality water for drinks, ice and equipment.
Q2Which RO system do I need?
It depends on how many litres per hour you need. The Noble RO 60 gives 60 L/h, the Imperial RO 120 L/h, the Majestic RO 185 L/h and the Majestic 400 RO up to 400 L/h. Industrial plants are built to demand, up to 56 m3/h. Tell us about your site and we recommend the right size.
Q3Does RO waste water?
RO sends part of the feed water to drain, carrying away the rejected solids. How much depends on the system and your water. The Majestic 400 RO, for example, runs at 50% recovery.
Q4Why use RO for coffee and ice?
Dissolved minerals change how coffee tastes and build up as scale in machines and ice makers. RO gives the same water every day. The Noble RO 60 also lets you set the final TDS to your recipe or equipment spec.
Q5Do I need a filter before RO?
Yes. Carbon and sediment pre-filtration protects the membrane from chlorine and particles. It is built into our systems or added as a separate stage.
Q6Do you install and service it?
Yes. Our engineers install every Sovereign RO system and can look after it on a maintenance plan across the UK.

Not sure which RO system fits?

Tell us about your site and we'll recommend the right system, then install and service it across the UK.
