Everpure QL Systems: The Modular Filter Head Trusted by UK Foodservice

Everpure QL filter heads for UK coffee and beverage equipment: how they work, what the QL3-BH2 is rated for, and when you need pre-treatment as well.

Everpure QL Systems are Pentair Everpure's modular filter heads for low-flow coffee and beverage equipment in UK cafés, restaurants and hotels. As an authorised Everpure distributor, Sovereign Water supplies, installs and maintains the QL range, matching each head and cartridge to the equipment it protects and to the local water.

The appeal is less about one cartridge and more about the platform: a fixed head that stays plumbed in, and a cartridge that twists out in seconds at service time. On hard UK water, the QL head is often one part of a wider set-up, with pre-treatment upstream so the cartridge can do its job.

TL;DR

  • Everpure QL Systems pair a permanent filter head with a twist-in cartridge, built for low-flow coffee and beverage equipment.
  • Cartridges reduce chlorine taste and odour and filter particles down to 0.5 microns; some also feed a scale inhibitor.
  • Pentair recommends changing a QL cartridge at least once a year, or sooner if flow drops or rated capacity is reached.
  • In very hard water areas a cartridge alone is often not enough, so a softener or small RO unit may sit upstream.
  • Sovereign Water supplies, installs and maintains the QL range across the UK.

What Are Everpure QL Systems?

Everpure QL Systems are commercial filter-head systems from Pentair Everpure, designed mainly for low-flow beverage equipment such as coffee brewers, espresso machines and tea equipment. Each system has two parts: a permanent QL filter head plumbed into the water supply, and a replaceable cartridge that twists in and out during routine servicing.

Everpure has made commercial water filtration since 1933. According to Pentair's QL Systems product page, the range "helps deliver quality water ideally suited for low-flow coffee brewing". The cartridges use precoat media that reduce chlorine taste and odour and filter particles as small as 0.5 microns. Depending on the cartridge, they can also help control scale, which matters across the many UK areas with hard mains water.

How the QL Filter Head Works

The QL head is a fixed mounting block connected to the cold supply and to the appliance. The cartridge twists onto the head, so a routine change does not mean shutting the water off for long or disturbing the plumbing. That is the main reason operators choose QL over housings that have to be unscrewed and refilled.

Each cartridge is matched to its application. A single head usually serves one espresso machine or brewer. Where a site needs more capacity, such as a multi-group brew bar, several heads can run together. Pentair's 2024 Foodservice Catalog lists QL alongside the Coldrink, Insurice and SC platforms, so one supplier can specify heads and cartridges for the whole kitchen.

Where QL Systems Fit in UK Foodservice

QL Systems are most often specified for coffee and beverage equipment, where water quality shows up directly in the cup and in the life of expensive machines. Typical UK sites include speciality coffee shops, restaurant beverage stations, hotel breakfast areas, contract catering and food-to-go retail.

The platform suits espresso machines, batch brewers, traditional brewers, tea and hot-water equipment, and some cold drink dispensers. The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) publishes recommended ranges for total dissolved solids, hardness and alkalinity in brewing water, and the right cartridge helps keep water inside those ranges from one service to the next. Our guide to water quality in coffee brewing explains why this matters.

QL is a low-flow platform. For higher-flow coffee and ice applications, the Everpure Fibredyne FC range is usually the better fit, and steamers are best served by Everpure Kleensteam.

Protecting Equipment and Lowering Running Costs

Scale and sediment shorten the life of espresso machines and brewers, and they spoil the cup long before anything visibly fails. A correctly specified QL cartridge keeps particles out of solenoids and brew groups, reduces chlorine taint, and helps protect boilers, pumps and heat exchangers.

The cartridge has limits, though. In the hardest UK areas, including much of the South East and East Anglia, a cartridge can be overwhelmed by hardness it was never designed to remove on its own. There, we pair the QL head with pre-treatment such as a softener or a small RO unit. Our commercial water softener guide and our guide to reverse osmosis for restaurants explain when each makes sense.

The result is longer cartridge life, steadier drink quality and lower total cost of ownership, without over-specifying a simple coffee station.

Sovereign Water: Authorised Everpure Distributor for the UK

Sovereign Water is an authorised Everpure distributor in the UK, supplying, installing and maintaining QL Systems alongside Insurice, Coldrink, SC, Kleensteam and the wider Pentair foodservice range. We handle specification, delivery, installation, commissioning and ongoing service as a single point of contact.

Every QL installation can be backed by our planned maintenance programme, which schedules cartridge changes and performance checks so nothing is left until flow drops mid-service. Our water treatment maintenance schedule sets out what is checked and when.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Everpure QL Systems used for?

Mainly low-flow beverage equipment: espresso machines, coffee brewers, tea machines and some cold drink dispensers. They reduce sediment and chlorine taste and odour, and depending on the cartridge can help control scale.

Do Everpure QL Systems remove limescale on their own?

Some QL cartridges feed a scale inhibitor, but in very hard UK water areas a cartridge alone is often not enough. We check local hardness and may specify an upstream softener or RO unit alongside the QL head.

How often should an Everpure QL cartridge be changed?

Pentair recommends changing a QL cartridge at least once a year, or sooner if the flow rate drops or the rated capacity is reached. Planned maintenance schedules the change before either happens.

What flow rate can a QL system handle?

It depends on the cartridge. The QL3-BH2, for example, is rated to a maximum of 0.5 gpm (1.9 litres per minute), which suits low-flow brewers. Higher-flow equipment usually needs a different Everpure platform.

Is Sovereign Water an authorised Everpure supplier in the UK?

Yes. Sovereign Water is an authorised Everpure distributor in the UK and supplies, installs and maintains the Everpure range, including QL Systems, Insurice, Coldrink, SC and Kleensteam.

Can a QL system be added to existing coffee equipment?

Usually, yes. The QL head retrofits into most existing coffee, tea and beverage installations. Our engineers check pressure, flow and the existing plumbing during a site survey to confirm the right set-up.
